Celebrity Style Lust: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Friday 24 June 2011

I personally did not even know who Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was up until a few months ago and just recently when I saw her candid's I must admit I had fallen in love with her style. It's not too dramatic or too out there, she doesn't look really dressed down or extremely dressed up, like the Kardashians. She tends to swap between an edgy look with her leather jackets, boho chic with her loose cardigans and floppy hat, or then even mixes the two together as shown below. I think the reason I like her style so much is because she incorporates some of my favourite things in her outfits like the floppy hats, fedoras, backless dresses and faux fur and manages to turn them into such easy-to-wear outfits.

Another I like is that she doesn't wear things just once. She has her favourite items and then re-creates new outfits with them. Her essential pieces in her daily wardrobe are regularly worn like her many various hats, Alexander Wang Rocco handbag, tan boots, fur coats and leather jackets and then she mixes them up with other basic pieces in her wardrobe, to create an effortless outfit.

To re-create her style at home, for my aussie readers, here are very similar boots to the ones she wears in the second picture below, and if you check one of my earlier posts there is a link to buy the floppy hats, that you see her wear.

I also like that she looks approchable and doesn't dress how you expect a Victoria's Secret Angel to be dressing. For example, at red-carpet events, her dresses are always classy with only a bit of skin showing at a time. If she chooses to show her back, she has a longer hem. Or if she shows of her legs her entire top half of her body is covered. She doesn't wear the tight, super short, clevage bearing dresses people expect her to wear.

On that note, I wish her whole wardrobe could just appear in my room. That would be quite nice indeed. xo

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Red Carpet

Sunday 12 June 2011

I found the actual awards to be very awkward. The jokes went too far and were not funny and the whole ceremony was a mess. At times I just wanted to save Rob Pattinson, he looked so nervous the poor thing. But there was one good thing about the awards. The fashion. So many people got it right, there were barely any worst dressed.

Best Dressed

Emma Watson - the Harry Potter actress looked gorgeous in this Marchesa mini. The neckline and the shoulders looked really delicate, although making a bold statement at the same time. I really like her silver pumps as they don't distract from her look, they just accentuate it. And I'm glad she didn't over accessorise as the dress spoke for itself.

Leighton Meester - First of all, her hair. I absolutely adore her lighter ends. And after switching from blonde to brunette and then back again, I think she finally found a hair colour that suits her so much. A combination of them both. The dress is amazing and of course by Balmain. It's so intricate and looks really good on her, and also the fact that it's super short shows of her toned legs. This girl never disappoints with shoes. I don't think I have ever seen her wear a pair of boring heels.

Mila Kunis - I don't think Mila has ever not been on my best-dressed list. She always looks spectacular and dresses for the occasion. Her skirt is something I actually need in my closet and is again by Balmain. The colours are really nice and I like how she didn't try to over-do the outfit with her top. The only problem I have with this outfit are her shoes. It's such a strong outfit and the neutral colour of her shoes off-set the look.

Emma Stone - I am so glad she died her hair back. I know blonde is her natural colour, but I think it washed her out. And this shade of red is gorgeous, if I ever died my hair red, it would be with this colour. I really like her dress, it was really cute and I like that you could see the yellow from underneath the lace. It gave the dress a more young feel to it. Although again I dislike her shoes. The burnt orange doesn't really match with the yellow and black. Black shoes, like with Mila Kunis' outfit, would have been perfect here.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely - Considering she's a Victoria's Secret Model, I think everyone was expecting a tight, revealing number, but she surprised us all. She was fairly covered up, but she still oozed glamour and had that sex appeal. And I think she looked stunning. Although with a face and a body like hers, I don't think you could ever look bad. Also I liked the fact that she didn't add accessories as it would of clashed with the print.

Selena Gomez - I adored her hair and her make-up but her outfit was definitely not one of her best outfits. It looked cute and age-appropriate but I disliked it. I also think she should of stuck to the runway colour of this skirt which was more lighter. The colour she has now doesn't really match with the green and it looks kind of weird. Also I have a large hate for pointed shoes, so maybe I would of like this look more if she was wearing strappy heels or pumps.

Lily Collins - Another red-head that I love! She looked adorable and like Rosie opted for animal print. I also adore her Christian Louboutin booties, although I don't think it was the best option for this outfit. They cut off at the ankle which makes her legs seem shorter than they are. But overall this was a cute look for her.

Cameron Diaz - Such a cute jumpsuit and showed us why she has the best legs in hollywood. It was quite plain, but the colour suited her and it was playful and fun which was what these awards was about. She could of accessorised a bit more but it looked fine without it.

Blake Lively - She looks good I must admit, the dress shows of her amazing body. She comes under scrutiny for showing too much breast and legs, but seriously if you've got it, flaunt it, but maybe not at the same time. Her legs are amazing and probably rival Cameron's, so she should of shown them off. I like how she took a risk with her shoes, she didn't do the expected and wear black pumps. It makes the dress more red-carpet ready.

Kristen Stewart - For once I like what she is wearing. And I think she does as well, because she is smiling, which is quite a rarity for her! This dress is so suited to her and I applaud her stylist, because they finally got it right. She even has heels on, granted though, she changed into converse for the ceremony, but still! It's a step. She does seem to be wearing the same thing though, strapless super mini dresses. But I guess, if it works for her.

Nikki Reed - She looked amazing. Her dress reminded me of the Lanvin one, Blake Lively has worn. I really like the sheer skirt, it made it possible to wear a long dress without looking too formal. But her hair is throwing me off. It looks like she just got out of bed. It might be the result of tight curls and a wind problem.

Elizabeth Reaser - Oh my gosh this dress is gorgeous. Simple but amazing at the same time. I love the silhouette and the beading is what makes it more than just your average LBD. I'm sure up close, you would be able to see the beading much better but it still looks good from back here.

                                                          Worst Dressed

Jessica Szohr - This is wrong in so many ways. Being a full-length jumpsuit, it has too be fitted somewhere otherwise it looks like a mess as showcased here. Not only that, the pattern is distracting and over-used on the jumpsuit and makes it look more loose than it is. And lastly the hem. Why, oh why is touching the floor. Nothing good to say about this. I don't know what possessed her to wear this, she usually makes good red-carpet choices.

Amanda Bynes - I see she's sticking to the skin tight Herve Leger dresses she's been wearing to every even for the past couple of years. I don't know what it is but it fits her so terribly. And then the shoes. The colour. The shape. The frill. Don't even get me started on how bad this looks. She seriously is in need of a fashion make-over.

Hailee Steinfeld - This kills me to put her here, because she is goregous and throughout the Oscars and the Academy Awards, she was dressed so well and then she does this. It's a cute tux and all, but she's 14. She should be having fun with her clothes, especially at am awards show like this where your allowed the freedom to express yourself. Her hair is absolutely amazing though.

Holland Roden - The silhouette of this dress is something you would wear to the more prestigious or adult awards shows. Definitely not for an event like this. Unlike Nikki Reed who rocked the long dress, Holland surely did not. It looked too formal and the pattern was just weird.

I'm sorry this was such a long post! Next time I do one of these I might break it up a little. But anyway, those who did stick around and read the whole thing thanks :)

Style Alert: Floppy Hats

Thursday 2 June 2011

My obsession with these hats started about a month or two ago when I first saw them on Vanessa Hudgens. I think it was love at first site. And when I saw Brittany wearing a burgundy one on Glee my love for these hats was confirmed. These hats look so soft, and flow-y almost and give of such a relaxed, boho vibe. I have seen so many when I visit the shops, and cannot resist the temptation to try them on, but none are in the colour that I want, which is grey. It's neutral and can be worn with almost anything and I think it will be the perfect addition to my wardrobe. Especially since here in the summer, it's gets really hot. Who says you can't look fabulous while staying sun-safe?

I found a place to purchase them in Australia just click here :) They also ship internationally, but I'm sure your local stores will stock the hats as well. The link takes you to all the accessories, but just click hats in the bar above and then its in the first row.

You can pair these hats with either a messy waves, a loose shirt, jeans and flats for a casual, relaxed outfit or for a more glamorous look take inspiration from, dare I say it, Kim Kardashian, who opted to wear a fur vest, skinny jeans, perfect loose curls and sky high heels. I dislike Kim and her fame-seeking ways but I have to admit she does put those expensive clothes she owns to good use as she always looks immaculate, when it comes to what she's wearing.
